NanoBeacon™ Technology

Redefining Bluetooth beacons with a family of SoCs built from the ground up to be ultra-low cost, ultra-low power, and programming-free.

We developed NanoBeacon™ Technology to address an unmet need in the RFID market. Active RFID solutions provide a number of additional benefits when compared to their passive counterparts such as longer-range support and enhanced functionality such as being able to send out sensor measurements and data points.

The problem with the Bluetooth-based active RFID systems currently available in the market is two-fold:

  • High cost: active RFID solutions available are too cost-prohibitive to be a feasible replacement for passive RFID solutions. This applies not only to the chipset cost but also to the development and manufacturing costs.

  • High complexity: active RFID solutions available are too complex and overkill for their purpose.

We decided to take on this challenge and address the need by designing an ultra-low cost and programming-free Bluetooth-based solution from the ground up. We designed a solution that’s primarily focused on solving these two challenges and named this SoC family: the NanoBeacon™ Family.

Our ultimate goal with NanoBeacon™ Technology is to democratize active RFID technology so that anyone can develop a system based on this technology with no required software development experience and at a cost that is low enough to serve as a viable replacement for passive RFID solutions.

What makes NanoBeacon™ Technology so revolutionary?

  • We designed NanoBeacon™ Technology to be lower in cost than any other existing solution out there. This applies to chipset cost, manufacturing process cost, and development cost.

  • We did not stop at an ultra-low cost. We took it even further and designed a solution that also consumes less power than any other solution out there.

  • This unique feature of our NanoBeacon™ Technology was a key consideration for our design. It allows anyone to create a solution based on this technology with no Bluetooth development experience required. This is possible via the provided NanoBeacon™ Config Tool desktop application that allows users to easily customize and configure their application to meet the requirements of their product.

Benefits Overview

  • Ultra-Low Cost

With a price target of $1 per tag, NanoBeacon™ SoC solutions offer the most competitive low-cost solution for Bluetooth beacons deployment. It achieves this by offering an ultra-low cost chipset, lower development cost, and lower long-term maintenance costs.

  • Ultra-Low Power

NanoBeacon™ chipsets were designed from the ground up with low-power consumption as a top priority. With an innovative RF design, NanoBeacon™ chipsets are able to achieve impressive battery life reducing cost and physical size of end-product solutions.

  • Programming-Free

With an innovative Programming-Free design, creating solutions based on NanoBeacon™ chipsets is easier than ever! Manufacturers are able to cut down on development costs and achieve a shorter time-to-market.

  • Ultra-Wide Operating Voltage

By offering a much wider operating voltage than competitors, NanoBeacon™ chipsets are able to provide manufacturers with more flexibility when it comes to incorporating power supply options into their designs.

  • Multiple Sensor Interfaces

NanoBeacon™ chipsets support a variety of sensor interface options allowing manufacturers to incorporate a wide range of sensors in their designs. Some examples include I2C, GPIO, 1-wire, and ADC.

  • Robust RF Design

By going back to our semiconductor and RF design roots, we were able to integrate our novel protocol directly into our circuitry. This allowed us to create SoCs that achieve a longer range and more precise RF designs than our competitors.
