IN120 vs. IN100: Choosing the Right NanoBeacon SoC
InPlay's NanoBeacon platform now spans two generations of silicon: the original IN100, winner of RFID Journal's Best New Product award in 2021 and 2023, and the newer IN120, purpose-built for sensor-enabled smart labels.
IN100 is the generalist. Its broad sensor interface support — I2C, ADC, GPIO, and 1-wire — makes it the right choice when you need to attach a wide variety of third-party sensors: humidity, light, motion, or custom analog sensors from any vendor.
IN120 is the specialist. It integrates a factory-calibrated temperature sensor directly on-chip, eliminating an external component and reducing BOM cost for any application centered on temperature — cold chain logistics, healthcare and pharma, and industrial condition monitoring.
If your product needs flexible, multi-sensor support across diverse use cases, start with IN100. If your product is fundamentally about temperature — and most smart-label use cases are — IN120's integrated sensor and smaller 1.6 × 1.6 mm package will get you to production faster and cheaper.
